CFT aims to prepare students for the ever‑changing future by cultivating both specialized domain knowledge and a broad scope of general knowledge.

Students participate in group thesis projects that provide training in both academic knowledge and transferable skills, aligning with our University’s educational vision of transforming education for the future. Academic supervisors guide students in their specialized knowledge and research training, while the project supervisors at CFT emphasize the development of transferable skills through group thesis projects, related courses, and various teaching initiatives.

UCMP6010

跨学科研究方法 I

The 2023/24 Spring Term is the third consecutive term for the course UCMP6010 Cross-disciplinary Research Methods I. In this term, UCMP 6010 proceeded as scheduled, with a total quota of 350 students for the whole course, 300 students for Module A and 80 students for each of the other 8 modules. Students are required to take Module A and at least 3 other modules offered by instructors from different thrusts than their own, which can be completed over multiple semesters. 9 instructors represent different fields to ensure students learn various approaches and how to use different research tools in interdisciplinary projects.

In order to enrich the content and scope of the course, and to provide students with the opportunity to learn more research methodologies, CFT has established a teaching rotation mechanism for this course in 2023/24 Spring Term. More instructors could be invited to join the course on a rotating basis based on their willingness. In 2024/25 Fall Term, two new instructors will join the course, bringing new learning experiences to the students.

UCMP6030

跨学科设计思维 I

The course UCMP6030 跨学科设计思维 I was last offered in the 2023/24 Fall Term. Therefore, there was no offering in 2023/24 Spring Term and CFT used this term to prepare for the upcoming 2024/25 academic year. The next offering will be in 2024/25 Spring Term with a total course quota of 160 students. Starting from the 2024/25 academic year, the UCMP6030 course will only be open to PhD students.

This course has also invited new instructors to join the teaching team for 2024/25 Spring Term, aiming to bring more innovation and creativity to the teaching. As the course requires hands-on activities to cultivate students' design thinking, it is necessary to prepare the course materials in advance. This semester, the course team referred to the previous usage of UCMP6030 course materials and, based on the expected number of students, completed the procurement of course materials for the 2024/25 Spring Term in advance.

UCMP6050

项目驱动的协同设计思维

Iterated from UCMP6030 跨学科设计思维 I, the newly developed UCMP6050 项目驱动的协同设计思维 is specifically tailored for RBM students. The course curriculum is designed to closely align with the key milestones of the students’ thesis projects, following the project-driven learning pedagogy at RBM. Each module will span a semester, with the entire course spanning 3 consecutive semesters to align with RBM curriculum. This approach not only provides enough opportunity for students to expose to project-driven collaborative learning but also empowers students with practical thinking tools in a group project or thesis project setting during the study period.

The course is scheduled to commence in 2024/25 Fall Term, while CFT faculty members will instruct each session of the course to meet the need of estimated size of 400 of 3rd cohort RBM students.
