Red Bird MPhil Program is an academic master program designed by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) to achieve the training goal of “leading talents in complex innovation and entrepreneurship”. The project explores the “student-centered” integrated discipline education paradigm, and creates a favorable growth environment for future strategic engineers and strategic scientists to discover themselves, tap their potential and continuously improve their abilities through project-guided teaching.

Offline Interview

Red Bird MPhil Program Offline Interview is an essential part of postgraduate selection process for HKUST (GZ), which aims to practice the cross-disciplinary, project-based, innovative talent cultivation model, fully tap the potential of applicants and select applicants with excellent academic performance and comprehensive abilities for admission. Due to the pandemic, online interview was used instead of offline interview over the past two years. However, with the easing situation, HKUST (GZ) has resumed its offline interview component for postgraduate admissions.

  • Are there any requirements for undergraduate to apply for Red Bird MPhil Program?

      1. This program has no restrictions on undergraduate majors.
      2. This program focuses on "Future medical and healthcare technology, sustainable living and intelligent Industrialization" three directions, which involve disciplines and majors covering the four hubs of HKUST (Guangzhou) and their thrusts. Applicants can choose one of the directions according to their own interests, educational background and future career plans. After 6 months of academic exploration, students will determine their academic supervisor through mutual selection.
      3. Applicants should select "Master of Philosophy (General)" when submit their application in Online Admission System（OAS）, and do not need to select a specific hub or thrust.

  • Is the Red Bird MPhil Program a full-time master's program?

      This is a full-time Master of Philosophy program of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou).

  • General Admission Requirements

      1. Applicants should obtained a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution, or an approved equivalent qualification.
      2. Applicants have to fulfill English Language requirements (See below for details).
      3. Applicants are not required to contact the professors in advance. Personal statements, research proposals, and recommendation letters are encouraged but not required. In addition, the program does not require applicants to have scientific research experience or to publish papers.
