To Our Visionaries and Changemakers,
As we stand at the dawn of a transformative era, where technology and innovation converge to shape the future, HKUST (GZ) is not merely a participant but a true architect of change. We are committed to building an environment where transdisciplinary collaboration is the foundation—a place where knowledge flows seamlessly, innovation knows no limits, and the boundaries of possibility are continuously redefined.
This belief forms the backbone of the Red Bird MPhil Program (RBM)—a signature initiative of our College of Future Technology (CFT). The RBM is more than just a program; it is a dynamic platform for innovation, where students, academics, and industry leaders come together to solve real-world challenges. The CFT serves as the heart of this initiative, where academic rigor meets practical application, and where the future isn’t just predicted—it is actively shaped.
The CFT is powered by three key pillars: the Base of Red Bird MPhil, the Lab of Future Technology, and the Red Bird Makerspace. These are not merely facilities for a single program; they are hubs of creativity and collaboration, open to the entire university. CFT provides a platform where faculty from different disciplines can converge to co-create and drive transdisciplinary research and learning. Here, ideas flow freely, transforming into real-world solutions that bridge the gap between academia and industry.
Within the CFT, students embark on a journey that combines intellectual rigor with real-world impact. Supported by faculty from diverse fields, they engage in a curriculum that sparks transdisciplinary exploration, critical thinking, and teamwork—skills that prepare them to lead in an ever-evolving world. Through RBM team projects, students are empowered to turn their bold ideas into entrepreneurial ventures, with the Lab of Future Technology offering a bridge where innovation becomes reality and dreams take shape.
The impact of the CFT extends far beyond its walls. It is where students are shaped into innovators and leaders, ready to meet the uncertainties of the AI era and beyond. The CFT drives our university’s mission to be a global benchmark in educational innovation, cultivating the talents who will pioneer the technologies and solutions of tomorrow.
As we move forward, it’s not the distant mountains but the grains of sand—the daily challenges—that test us most. Like a pilgrimage, our journey is not just about reaching the destination, but about the resilience we demonstrate along the way.
Together, as pragmatic idealists, let us remain bold in vision, unwavering in action, and united in shaping a future driven by passion and perseverance.
